About Us

Welcome to TheFoodGardener, your partner in growing delightful things from seed to harvest, one seed at a time.

We want to inspire you, guide you and grow alongside you, as you nurture your very first seedling or harvest huge baskets full of veggies from your backyard garden. This is a place where growing your own food is not only possible, but deeply satisfying.

🥕 Our Story

It all started with some tomato seeds, a balcony garden ,and a lot of curiosity.

TheFoodGardener started as a personal endeavor to reconnect with nature and enjoy the food we grew in our own backyard or balcony. What originally started as an experiment in urban gardening grew into a full blown passion.

Throughout that journey, we asked questions, just like you might be asking now: What do I plant this season? How do I keep pests away naturally? Why is my basil not growing.

With each season, and mistake, and harvest, we learned more and began to discover others like us, seeking the same learning path and encouragement. We started a blog to share what we learned, acknowledge small wins, and allow many others to experience the power and satisfaction of growing food at home.

Today we celebrate TheFoodGardener as a vibrant online community, with thousands of readers across the world – from urban dwellers with rooftop gardens, to rural growers with large vegetable plots.

🌼 Our Mission

TheFoodGardener’s mission is to make gardening accessible, fun and sustainable.
We believe:

  • Everyone can grow something. No one’s space, experience or climate should keep them away from gardening.
  • Gardening is for everyone, young and old, expert or beginner.
  • Homegrown food is better—for your health, your wallet and for the planet.
  • Failing is part of the process. Every dead plant is a lesson waiting to be learned.
  • Connection matters—to the earth, to what we eat, and to each other.

Through informational practical advice, and stories from our community, our goal is to take out the guesswork and put the fun into food gardening.

🌎 Why It Matters

Growing your own food is not just a movement—it’s a revolution. A quiet revolution built on resilience and self-sufficiency and a more meaningful relationship with the earth.

That’s why we think it’s worth digging into!

  • Food that’s healthy: You know what’s in (and on) your food.
  • Less waste: You harvest what you need when you need it.
  • Less cost: You can grow gourmet salad greens for pennies.
  • Climate impact: Less food miles, less packaging, less use of resources, more greener everyday actions.
  • Peace of mind: Gardening is neuro-therapeutic; it helps us ground ourselves amongst the chaos of our day-to-day lives.

And when you are growing food, you start to see the world a little differently—from your plate to our planet!

🧑‍🌾 Meet the Gardener Behind the Blog

Hi, I’m Devyani Sabhadiya, the soil-smeared soul behind TheFoodGardener.

I’m a self-taught grower, full-time food lover, and part-time compost enthusiast.

i holds an Honors Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, with a specialization in Wildlife Conservation.

I grew up working on my family’s market vegetable garden and now oversee a community garden project. I have about ten years of gardening experience, and in the past three, I’ve developed a particular obsession with soil health and low-cost gardening.

I started this blog to share what I’ve learned (and am going to continue learning) about growing real food, in real spaces.

When I’m not gardening or writing for the blog, you’ll probably find me at the local farmer’s market, experimenting with new seed-starting methods, or whipping up something fresh from the garden.

This site is not just a journal of my journey—it’s a community garden in blog form.🌻
